Convention came and went in what seemed like a blur, but what wasn’t a blur was the wonderful thank you’s and kind words of a job well done. So, thank you Virginia Young Democrats for being so supportive and spending time with us in Richmond. Looking forward to the next time we see each other again!

The RVA2012 Committee is proud to announce that our Special Guest and Keynote Speaker for the 2012 Awards Banquet on Saturday, March 31, will be John “Jack” Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg, Democratic Activist and Young Democrat.
I was born in New York City and have lived there my entire life. My father is Edwin Schlossberg – he works as an interactive designer and his family came to America from Russia. My mother, Caroline Kennedy, is an author and has worked for the New York Department of Education. I have two sisters, Rose and Tatiana, and I’m very close to both of them.
In 8th grade, I co-founded a non-profit called Relight New York, a project that raised over $100,000 to buy CFL light bulbs and instal them in low-income housing projects in NYC in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and save tenets money on electricity bills. In 2008, I organized a trip for my high-school’s Young Democrats club to canvass in PA for the Obama campaign. I worked as a Senate Page in the summer of 2010 and was elected by my peers to be the Floor Page, the person responsible for delegating orders, filing amendments, and accounting for Senators during votes. The following summer I worked as a Senate Intern. I have also worked on a fishing boat every summer for one month since I was 13. Last year I was elected by my classmates of 13 years to be our graduation speaker.
I’m a freshman at Yale, and the week that I got here I got involved in a campaign for a position held by a Yale student on New Haven’s City Council. I was accepted to the Board Of Alderman’s policy assistant program at the Public Safety assistant, and co-fouded Yale for Chris Murphy. I also do Stand-Up comedy at Yale and write for the Yale Daily News.

Help other young women make their dreams come true and donate your gently used semi-formal and formal dresses to Cinderella Dreams. Young women, in the Richmond area, who might otherwise not be able to purchase a prom dress will now be able to, cost free! So, ladies, bring a dress of JJ past and help a young woman make memories of her own!
We will have a rack at registration where you will be able to hang any dresses that you bring.

Missy Neff Gould, VP of Government Relations at McGuireWoods. Missy will serve as a panelist on “The War Room: From Knocking on Doors to Making Decisions,” on Saturday, March 31. She specializes in environmental policy issues, providing legislative lobbying services, strategic planning and event coordination. She has significant experience working with clients in the Southside and Southwest regions of Virginia. Her current portfolio includes energy, environment, technology, healthcare and education policy, as well as developing political giving strategies. Prior to joining MWC, Missy served as Assistant Secretary of Natural Resources under Governor Tim Kaine. She has also worked as a program coordinator for the Virginia League of Conservation Voters where she monitored and lobbied legislation and designed and implemented outreach strategies to enlist and train volunteers and interns. She is a member of the Virginia Museum of Natural History Board of Trustees. She was previously appointed to Virginia’s Council on the Status of Women by former Governor Mark Warner. She earned an undergraduate degree in political science and history from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. and is a native of South Boston, Virginia.
